To assist the endeavors of local non-profits in our community, Gulf Coast Bank rewards a total of $50,000 to the top 10 local non-profits voted on by the community. Voting will take place online through March 15, 2016.
 
Guerrilla Garden Spring Kick-Off Party
 

The Backyard Gardeners Network invites the community to celebrate the opening of the Guerrilla Garden at a special kick-off party. The event will take place Saturday, Feb. 27, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Guerrilla Garden, 600 Charbonnet Street. 
 
Enjoy free food, music, a mini-market, family activities and face painting from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and a Spring planting workshop at 3 p.m.

Learn how to manage stormwater on your property
 

Waterwise NOLA will host an open house at Nilima Mwendo's home to assess for stormwater management and show visitors how to assess and plan for stormwater management on their own property. The event will take place this Saturday, Feb. 27, 9 a.m - 10 a.m. at Nilima Mwendo's home, 834 Jourdan Ave.

A night of PoEATry at Cafe Dauphine 
 

Tekrema Center for Art and Culture will host their monthly gathering to celebrate food, poetry, music and friends Monday, Feb. 29, 7 p.m. at Cafe Dauphine, 5229 Dauphine St. 
 
Pre-construction community meeting 
 
The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works and Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans will host a pre-construction meeting to discuss repairs to Hurricane Katrina-damaged roads and infrastructure in the Lower Ninth Ward. The following streets will be impacted: Jourdan Ave., Florida Ave., Caffin Ave. and N. Claiborne Ave. 
 
The pre-construction meeting will take place Wednesday, March 2, 6 p.m. at The Sanchez Multi-Purpose Center, 1616 Caffin Ave.

Free documentary screening with focus on early childhood 

Mark your calendars for a free screening of "The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation", a five-part documentary series that aims to reframe the way Americans look at early child health and development. The screening will take place Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Sanchez Center, 1616 Caffin Ave., with episodes "Signature Hour" and Wounded Places".

Paid youth internship 

Limitless Vistas, Inc
. is recruiting for a new class, which begins March 9. It's an environmental conservation workforce development and job training program for youth ages 18 - 24 years old. Participants will earn industry-recognized certifications and skills to work as environmental technicians, and a stipend of $210 every two weeks.

Volunteers needed for Movin' for LIFE's Community Coalition 
 
Movin' for LIFE is seeking volunteers for their community coalition. Their goal is to foster partnerships and create resources within the community to improve physical activity levels and enhance quality of life. Members must be 18 years or older, live in New Orleans East or the Ninth Ward and be able to meet once a month.
