Volunteer Spotlight: UC Berkeley

 

This week, CSED welcomed our first volunteer group of the new year, wonderful students from University of California, Berkeley.

The Backyard Gardeners Network has open positions for Youth Outreach Co-Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator and Youth interns. 

Cameras in Hand, New Orleanians Capture A Changing Community
 
 
Last summer, National Geographic partnered with Lower 9 photographers Chandra McCormick and Keith Calhoun to offer a two-day photo workshop. 
 
Free weekly gardening workshop kicks off this weekend 
 
Learn how to grow veggies, fruits, flowers, and herbs at Garden on Mars' free weekly gardening workshops. They'll take place every Saturday in January, (Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30) from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at 2435 Charbonnet St. 

If you're interested in earning extra money, you can even learn how to grow for chefs and florists in town who want to support local growers like yourself. E-mail [email protected] to sign up.
City of New Orleans to host training sessions for contractors on "HireNOLA" and DBE program

The City of New Orleans will kick off a series of free seminars to provide training on its new Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) contract and labor compliance software systems and HireNOLA policy. The trainings are open to the public and will be held at Delgado Community College City Park Campus, H. Giles Hall, 615 City Park Av., New Orleans, LA 70119.

Neighborhood Participation Program Study Extended 

The New Orleans City Planning Commission is extending the study for the Neighborhood Participation Program (NPP). The study is considering modifications to the NPP to further enhance early notification and the dissemination of information related to development projects. The NPP Study will be considered at the City Planning Commission's February 23, 2016 meeting. More information on the NPP is available on the CPC website.
